The Department of State Police proposed budget total of $388.2 million equals a decrease of $10.5 million or 2.6% below FY12 total funds of $398.7 million.

Closures in the budget include:

Consolidation of 16 of 20 telecommunications centers.  These centers are located at each State Police headquarters across the State.  Telecommunication centers obtain facts related to an incident and dispatch the necessary police, fire, or emergency medical service units. The remaining four centers will be located in Sterling, Springfield, DuQuoin, and Des Plaines.  Currently there are 165 telecommunicators in Illinois.  The Department has stated they need no more than 100.  Therefore, the Governor’s office will be laying off 40, with an additional 25 anticipated for attrition.  Savings for the closure is approximately $3 million GRF.

Consolidates the Carbondale forensic lab.  Anticipated layoff is 17 headcount, with the option of filling vacancies.  Expected savings from this closure totals approximately $1.3 million GRF.

Adds $3 million GRF for cadet classes.

Decreases the Nursing Home Identified Offender Program by $100,000 GRF or 11.9%

Includes $12 million Other State Funds for the purchase of vehicles and accessories.  This total is equal to FY12 appropriations.
