State Senator Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) issued the below statement after the Senate passed a balanced budget for FY19. On May 30, Althoff voted in favor of the budget bills and noted it was the first budget she has voted in favor of since her time as a State Senator.
“I am extremely pleased to have voted in favor of this budget package—which is balanced, has no new taxes, and was crafted in a true bipartisan fashion.
“Illinois for too long has been plagued with tax increases and out-of-balance budgets, which is why in the 15 years that I have served in the Illinois Senate I have never been able to support a budget. With this being the last budget vote I will ever take, I am thrilled that it was finally one I could get behind. It’s amazing what can be accomplished with compromise and cooperation.
“Moving forward, I am hopeful that the kind of cooperation we’ve seen within this year’s budget process becomes the standard for the process in years ahead. However, Illinois needs more than just balanced budgets. Our taxpayers deserve and demand reforms that will grow our economy, create jobs, and move Illinois forward.”
