The Illinois Senate unanimously passed legislation filed by State Senator Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) to honor and remember the lifetime of service of the Rev. Jon Sibley.
“Rev. Sibley devoted his life to the service of the others,” said State Senator Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria). “It is my hope that this memorial will help preserve his memory for the future generations who live in and travel through Galesburg.”
Rev. Sibley was a lifelong resident and supporter of the Galesburg Community. He served in the US Air Force, the Illinois State Police, and the Galesburg Police Department, in addition to serving as the pastor of Full Gospel Church.
Senate Joint Resolution 47 designates the East Main St. underpass of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks in Galesburg as the “Reverend Jon A. Sibley Underpass” and requests IDOT to erect the proper signage.
“Rev. Sibley’s memory should remain an inspiration to all of us, as a model of service to your family, your community, your state, and your country,” said Senator Weaver.
The legislation is now headed to the Illinois House for consideration in that chamber.
