Schimpf believes both universities are better together
State Senator Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) is speaking out about newly filed legislation that calls for the separation of the Edwardsville and Carbondale campuses of Southern Illinois University.
The newly filed House Bill 5861, would amend the Southern Illinois University Management Act. It calls for the abolition of the Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University and vies to separate the campuses making them separate institutions.
"I am assessing the legislation that Representative Jay Hoffman has once again filed to separate the Edwardsville and Carbondale campuses of Southern Illinois University. Such a proposal should be the culmination of a thorough evaluation of what will allow both universities to maximize their potential, not a response to a rushed, controversial Board of Trustees vote. At this time, I believe both universities are better positioned to compete in an increasingly difficult higher education environment when they remain part of a combined system."
