Following the Illinois Senate’s vote to override Governor Bruce Rauner’s amendatory veto of Senate Bill 1, State Senator Michael Connelly (R-Naperville) offered the following comments.
“Senate Bill 1 unfairly allows Chicago to hide wealth from some of its most valuable property from the school funding formula. This year alone it amounts to a whopping $561 million. This is fundamentally unfair. Real, comprehensive education funding must address this issue to ensure all kids in Illinois have access to the funding they need to get a quality education. Until that happens, property taxes will continue to rise in areas outside of Chicago.”
