State Senator Michael Connelly (R-Naperville) releases the following statement regarding the revenue bill (Senate Bill 9) that passed the Illinois Senate on May 23:
“For the better part of six months, Senators on both sides of the aisle have spent countless hours negotiating structural reforms including spending caps, property tax relief and workers compensation reform. Today, on a partisan basis, the Senate Democrats have shown compromise the door and are simply repeating the same failed tax, spend and borrow plans of the past decade that have put our state in the perilous financial state that it's in.
“For Illinois to regain its rightful place as the dominant economic power of the Midwest, structural reform to workers compensation laws and real property tax relief must be enacted.
“It’s disappointing that our hard work has been thrown away, and instead we are left with a tax increase that will immediately impact the middle class and gives them nothing in return.”
