On Feb. 15, Governor Bruce Rauner addressed the 100th General Assembly for the second time this year, delivering his annual Budget Address before members of a joint General Assembly.
State Sen. Tom Rooney (R-Rolling Meadows) issued the following statement after the address:
“Throughout his address, the Governor did an excellent job underscoring the needs of the state, emphasizing Illinois’ biggest challenges, and stressing the importance of lawmakers working together for the sake of Illinois,” said Sen. Rooney. “Personally, I believe it is high time that lawmakers stop looking at budgets merely as numbers that can be stretched and manipulated for show on paper only to collapse into short-sighted, empty gestures. Those numbers represent the hard work and needs of taxpayers, businesses, and students across the state. Beyond that, a balanced budget represents financial security, stability and success for the future of Illinois. As lawmakers, it is time to put pen to paper and place real progress before political posturing. It is time to pass a balanced budget.”
