State Sen. Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) released the following statement after Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner delivered his 2017 Budget Address.
"The budget address is always important because it allows the governor to present his vision for the state’s fiscal future and his funding priorities. Any budget plan will require approval from both the Senate and House, as well as the Governor. In light of the current budget negotiations taking place in the Senate, the Governor’s plan offers us guidance on what he will be willing to sign into law, and what new avenues the leaders need to explore during talks. This is an important step toward finally giving the taxpayers a balanced budget.”
“I would also like to commend the Governor for again showing a major commitment to our schools by proposing historic funding levels for K-12 and early childhood education. I believe the Governor agrees with my desire to enact school funding reform before passing a budget, so that this increased monetary commitment to schools will be delivered to the students who need it most.”
