Continuing his role from the 99th General Assembly, State Senator Tom Rooney (R-Rolling Meadows) will continue serving as Republican Spokesperson for the Higher Education Committee throughout the new General Assembly.
“As a teacher, it is an honor to be able to bring my perspective to a committee that deals with policy issues and decisions that are going to impact students and fellow educators,” said Rooney. “Illinois has some of the most prestigious institutions for higher learning, and I am excited to serve on a committee that allows me to be an advocate in the higher education community.”
Sen. Rooney was first appointed as the Republican Spokesperson for the Higher Education Committee in 2016.
In addition to his responsibilities as Minority Spokesperson for the Higher Education Committee, Senator Rooney will also serve as a Republican member on the Local Government Committee, Appropriations II Committee, and Licensed Activities and Pensions Committee.
“Having served as mayor before becoming a senator, I have a real interest in the issues and policies of local government, and am ready to bring my experience to the table,” said Rooney. “I’m also extremely dedicated to doing my part to address Illinois’ ongoing fiscal challenges and am ready to dig in to tackle some of Illinois’ fundamental problems. I view my seat on both the Appropriations and Licensed Activities and Pension Committees as a real opportunity to bring a new voice to the discussion on reforms and regulations that impact our state’s struggling economy.”
