State Senator Karen McConnaughay (R-St. Charles) has once again been appointed to the position of Republican Spokesperson for the Transportation Committee, continuing the role she held during the 99th General Assembly.
“Illinois’ transportation network is one of the nation’s most extensive—encompassing bridges, airports, public transit, rail freight and passenger system, and impacting communities big and small throughout the state. Having served as the Republican Spokesperson during the previous General Assembly, I look forward to continuing my work on the state’s diverse transportation issues, which play a significant role in driving commerce and economic growth throughout Illinois,” said McConnaughay, who has served as Republican spokesperson for the Transportation Committee since 2015.
In addition to making policy decisions relating to transportation infrastructure and safety, the Transportation Committee oversees state transportation concerns pertaining to rules, regulations and licensure matters.
Along with her leadership role on the Transportation Committee, Senator McConnaughay will also serve on the following committees: Education, Gaming, Revenue, Energy and Appropriations II.
“I’m eager to hit the ground the running and get down to business. Education funding reform continues to be one of the most pressing issues facing our state, and one that I’ve been actively involved with as part of the Governor’s School Funding Reform Commission, so I anticipate the members of the Education Committee will have a lot to discuss this spring,” said McConnaughay. “And, of course, Illinois continues to face significant fiscal challenges which I look forward to digging into as a member of the Revenue and Appropriations committees. Finally, I look forward to resuming my position on the Energy Committee, and tackling new policy issues as a member of the newly established Senate Gaming Committee.”
