Now that the 2016 budget address is over and the budget process is moving forward, State Sen. Sam McCann (R-Plainview) says Illinois government needs to manage taxpayer’s money better.
“We need to look at each item in the budget, line by line, to ensure we are getting maximum return on investment for the citizens of Illinois before anyone even considers talking about revenue,” said Sen. McCann. “I have never voted to raise taxes, and I will absolutely not support any tax proposal that hurts middle class families. Government needs to prove that it is accountable to the people.”
Senator McCann reiterated his call for leaders from both chambers and the Governor get back to the negotiating table. McCann affirmed his belief that state spending can be strategically managed to protect core services such as education and infrastructure repairs while growing the economy, if consensus can be found on structural reform and revenue management.
“No one is going to get everything they want, but we can find a middle ground that funds vital services without hurting our middle class,” said Sen. McCann. “As always, I remain committed to working with my colleagues to solve our state’s biggest challenges and support working families.”
