State Sen. Michael Connelly (R-Wheaton) offered the following comments after Gov. Bruce Rauner delivered his second budget address on Feb. 17.
“Today marks the beginning of the process for crafting the Fiscal Year 2017 budget. Sadly, after nearly eight months, we are still in the middle of a FY 16 budget impasse with little progress,” Connelly said. “There are two choices: work with the Governor on reforming Illinois and growing revenues through a booming economy or empower the Governor to make the cuts necessary to balance the budget. Doing nothing is not an option. I appreciated the Governor’s comments on increasing our K-12 education funding levels and I firmly believe that he is dedicated to striking a balance that will not leave suburban taxpayers on the hook for failing Chicago schools.”
